HIBISCUS - Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants of the mallow family. Over 200 species are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are often noted for their showy flowers. The generic name is derived from the Greek word hibískos.

In Hindu worship, the Hibiscus is used as an offering to goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha. The bark of the hibiscus contains strong bast fibres and are used in Polynesia for making grass skirts.
